Hi Everyone!

Just got back from Moldova last night having been out in Group 1, and I can honestly say that becoming a volunteer was one of the best decisions I ever made. I wouldn't take back a second of the last 2 weeks, a truly rewarding experience.

A huge thank you to all at ORM (including the other volunteers) for their tremendous work and for making the past 2 weeks unforgettable. It was a privilege to work with such amazing people and to meet such incredible kids.

Hope to get back out there in the future and do it all over again!

Valerie

Time is approaching for the volunteers to head out. This time last year I was packing the bags, fitting in the bits and pieces for the girls and wondering what in god's name was ahead of me. This year, I'm just jealous of all the "voluntaris" heading out this summer. Have a great time all. Looking forward to making it back some day.

best of luck, and have a great summer

My first trip to Moldova was with group 2 last June i had seen a poster in my hairdresser's and thats how i found out about them .When you tell people you are going to work in an Orphanage their first reaction is Oh fair play to you but how can you do that it would be heartbreaking to which i alway's replied not at all i will be fine (trying to convince myself as well ). IWe arrived at the airport  about 4 to be greeted by Mercy ,liz and interpreters who all seemed to be very pleased to see us so i was sure everything was going to be just fine during the hour long bus trip Mercy and Liz chatted away to everyone and trere was great excitment from people who were on a return trip .We finally arrived at the orphanage and were shown to our room to get settled in we were free to walk round and get acustomed to the place being a loner i went off on my own to explore there were a lot of children in wheelchairs in the garden s waiting to go in for tea they looked so helpless thats when the panic set in why had i come her e i could do nothing for these girls i have no experience ,no degree in childcare i cant even speak in their language i must be mad ! and i was here for two weeks well needless to say i fell to pieces and Liz found me bawling in the kitchen followed by Sue they reassured me i would be fine and i was eventually but it was'nt untill halfway through the second week that it hit me these kids did'nt care if i had a degree they did'nt care i could'nt speak their language a kiss and a hug is the same in any language ,anyone can push a wheelchair round the grounds they just want us there .I knew before i left that i would return to Moldova and these wonderfull girls but i could 'nt wait a whole year so i got back to the fundraising and went back three months later in September i am heading back now on 11 june and i am counting the days these girls are in my heart now and i am signed up for life they give me more than i can ever give them so if your thinking about going over dont hesitate it will be a positive experience you will never forget . You will meet wonderfull people like Susie who has done so much for these girls i dont know wher she gets her strength thank you Susie for everything and Mercy and Liz the two Musketeers i love you all dearly .

Hello, hello!

Delighted to see new website up and running, it looks great, well done on all the hard work!

My 'Moldova Story' began in 2007 when I decided to 'give something back', do something 'worthwhile' and go volunteer somewhere! I saw an ad in the paper but it took an email from another previous volunteer to convince me (Thank you, thank you Mary O'D for the most important email I ever received!!). My first trip was brilliant throughout, but it was really in the second week that I fully found my feet and the orphanage felt like home. I cannot explain how amazing those girls are. It is possibly the most frustrating thing ever that when I come home, I just haven't got the words to express to people how fantastic each of the girls are and how important all their stories are.

I certainly found something 'worthwhile' to do with Outreach Moldova and although I may have also 'given something back', I got so much more in return. I know it's a cliché, but it couldn't be more true. It is the most uplifting experience ever. The orphanage is a happy place, the girls make you feel so welcome and you will not want to leave!!

The girls are a huge part of my life now. I think about them all the time, like today I was sitting in a lecture and I thought "It’s time for 'la mincare' over in the orphanage!!" and I just wanted to be there NOW!

Aside from the girls in the orphanage, you can expect to work with some of the best and nicest people I have ever met. From the moment you arrive, you are made feel so welcome and safe by everyone. Volunteer managers Liz and Mercy are total legends and great fun- they have been friends, teachers, advisors and listeners to me since I first met them in 2007. They don't come much better than those two ladies! I have made some great friends in fellow volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life, and in the translators who will work with you everyday. And of course Suzie... such a fantastic person, I cannot even attempt to grasp how much she has achieved and how tirelessly she works for the girls - I could sit and listen to her talk for hours!

That’s enough from me! If you are considering volunteering, then consider no more- just fill in that application!! It will be the best thing you'll ever do.

Kisses to the copii, see you all soon (I’m hoping to get back out in June for my fourth trip)

Hi to you all,

Congratulations on the new website! It is a credit to you and all the work done at the orphanage! I am so excited about returning with Caitriona at the end of July.

Just as many of the comments below say, if you are thinking about coming out to work in Hinchesti I promise you, you will not regret it. It is so rewarding and the children are just unforgettable!

Looking forward to seeing you again,

Rosemarie x
