The Christmas YOU Created...

We want to tell you all about the magic you created and the memories you left behind.

ORM has been providing a Christmas for the last 10 years for different children living in orphanages who had no families, no homes of their own and who had, quite literally, been forgotten at this very special time. Because of the support and goodwill that you provided this year, we were able to give over 1000 children a Christmas they would never forget.

Santa even flew in 3 little elves (well, not exactly elves - but 3 ORM volunteers dressed as elves) to help us undertake this massive task. As it turned out the little elves ended up staying in Moldova the entire Christmas holiday period, missing their own Christmas, as their plane never took off due to bad weather! (but that is a different story altogether).

 So how did it all happen?

When we asked you to get involved in October to help us bring something just a little bit special for Christmas we had no idea what you had planned. We had hoped that there would be a good response and that we could get to about 500 Children but we were a little reserved in our hopes what with the country being in a recession, nationwide job losses, the Government falling apart and the snow falling in Ireland. We honestly thought Christmas was numbered but as the Christmas presents started to arrive Mid November we knew that we were wrong! And how lovely it is to be wrong sometimes!!

By Mid - December we knew that we needed a re-think AND a new plan because it wasn't going to be a Christmas for 500, it was more like 1500 - that's how much stuff arrived!!  We evacuated an entire floor of a building to start the little toy factory of individual present assembly and although it took an army of people to sort each gift per age, size, gender &  appropriateness, it was all worth it because of the excitement that the end product caused (but more of that later too!)

Because of you we were able to reach 4 entire institutions, 2 hospitals and the most vulnerable of children in the community, where over 120 families that were having it so bad at home that Christmas wasn't really on their agenda and had in fact been off their radar for the last number of years.  

Now ORM will always work on the premise that if you don't ask you won't receive - because let's face it, what is the worst thing that can happen? Someone can say no? For every one negative response, there will always be many more who can find it in their heart to give to someone in need. So this year we also wrote to our Moldovan partners telling them of what the Irish people were doing to create Christmas and asked them to get involved - so what do you think happened? Yup, a little army of helpers stood up and said YES, proving that better together is not just a phrase but is also a reality.

Please remember that many of the delivered items had no names attached so we have no way to thank you - but you know who you are!

Who made MAGIC?

Christmas is a day of giving and everyone at Outreach Moldova (ORM) was delighted that we managed to reach everyone  this year. We can't tell you how thrilled we were that no one was forgotten and everyone received that little extra love this Christmas. This is all  thanks to a wonderful bunch of people that are so faithful to these children and the ORM cause. With your help, ORM managed to Make a Difference in over 1300 children’s and young adults’ lives this Christmas!! It really was a pleasure working with you all!
