Tokyo Marathon February 2011

Venue:         Tokyo, Japan
Date:            27 February 2011
Distance:     26.2 miles

The Tokyo Marathon, Tokyo's large scale city marathon, is scheduled to be held for the fifth time on February 27, 2011.
The race starts at the Metropolitan Government building in Shinjuku and ends at the Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba. The attractively designed route passes several of Tokyo's main tourist spots, including the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower, Asakusa and Ginza.

The Tokyo Marathon features a marathon race with approximately 32,000 participants and a 10 kilometer race with approximately 3,000 participants of both genders, including wheelchair users, and visually and mentally impaired athletes.

The marathon race is accompanied by various festivities and events, including the Tokyo Marathon Expo in the Tokyo Big Sight complex.

The application deadline for the 2011 race passed on August 31, 2010. Because the number of applicants always exceeds the number of spaces available, participants were determined by lottery, with results announced in mid October 2010. Application for the 2012 race is expected to be possible in summer 2011.
