Monaco Marathon March 2011
Venue: Monaco
Date: 20 March 2011
The Monaco Marathon or the Monaco and the Riviera Marathon (French: Marathon de Monaco et des Riviera) is a marathon run every year starting and finishing in Monaco. It crosses the border to France and Italy and goes along the coast to a turning point in Ventimiglia, Italy and back again to Monaco. There is also a 10 km race run entirely inside Monaco.
The marathon is run in March every year. In 2009 there were around 700 marathon participants, plus around 1000 participants in the 10 km race.
Due to the race's coincidence with French regional elections in 2010, the event was shortened to a half marathon, and Dennis Mehlfeld of Germany and American runner Heidi Freitag won the men's and women's races, respectively. The 10 km race continued as originally planned and a total of 1800 runners from 39 countries took part in the day's events that year.
This annual event which will take over the Hercule Harbour, will allow the greatest amount of people to come running or walking, alone or within a team.
Three races are already scheduled in 2011:
THE RIVIERA CLASSIC - 23.5km
Reclaiming the originality of the “Marathon de Monaco et des Riviera” which was going through three countries, this new pedestrian race will satisfy all the road races amateurs, on a distance reachable to everybody.
It will start from the city of VENTIMIGLIA (ITA) and will arrive in the heart of the PRINCIPALTY OF MONACO (MON), after 23.5km running along the « Riviera dei Fiori » and the French Riviera, going across the cities of MENTON (FRA) and ROQUEBRUNE CAP MARTIN (FRA).
The 10km of MONTE-CARLO
For its 8th edition, the novelty consists of an arrival moved on the Hercule Harbour.
With a distance measured with international criterias, this 10km is made for all the ones who want to test themselves on an official distance, qualifying for the French Championships.
The MONACO RELAY : 3km and 7km
A fresh new event, run by team of two, which will take place at the same time than the 10km of Monte-Carlo, but where the time performance will not be essential.
You have never run? You are not sure you can hold the distance?
Start the 3km where you could walk at your convenience, and then give the relay to your teammate who will finish as his/her own rhythm the last 7km.
