The Maleady Family – winners of the 2009 Rehab People of the Year Awards, International CategoryThe Maleady family of Clane – Ann, Pat and their daughter Tracy – had been recognized at the 20th anniversary of the Rehab Kildare awards for their dedication to the abandoned/orphaned children with special needs of Moldova’s orphanages.
The glittering event took place on the 6th November 2009 in the Keadeen hotel, Co. Kildare.
The Maleady family have been huge supporters for ORM with all of them travelling to Hincesti orphanage yearly as part of the ORM volunteer programme and between them have put in over 10 years service as volunteers. As well as undertaking the yearly journey to Moldova to care for these wonderful children, the Maleady family have been busy on the fundraising circuit at home. They are renowned for their Murder Mystery nights, which they run yearly, and together they have raised over 50,000 euros for the children still in state care.
‘It is especially pertinent in recessionary times to acknowledge the hard work of community heroes. When state funding and government budgets are cut, it is these volunteers who keep vital support services going’, the first recipient of the title, Matt Browne says.
