Irish Charity Hero Award 2010

Better Together! was an Irish national campaign to promote volunteering and community involvement, launched by charity umbrella group The Wheel during October – November 2010. 

The Better Together campaign had showcased the work that community and voluntary organisations do each day throughout Ireland. 

The objective of the campaign was to help increase public support for activities of this kind by highlighting the work of the various groups to the general public and emphasizing the impact that people can have if they were to donate some time to help support the various activities and causes.
 
A part of this wonderful campaign was Ireland’s Charity Hero Competition. 40 very deserving nominees were enrolled in the competition, but Mercy Fleming, Outreach Moldova’s longest serving volunteer was to be named Ireland’s Charity Hero of 2010 at Dublin Castle on 25th November.
 
For the last 10 years Mercy has been dedicating herself entirely to over 600 children and 1500 volunteers Outreach Moldova had the pleasure to work with. These very special children that have been orphaned or abandoned due to their disability or terminal illnesses are very lucky to have met this wonderful woman that from the very first day became their mother,  carer, nurse, friend and constant source of love and inspiration. Year by year she was able to make ORM’s faithful volunteers feel comfortable during their 2 weeks trip to Moldova’s Orphanages. 
 
Mercy has proved to us all that a true hero stays silent while the actions speak loud. 
 
ORM is very proud to be working with such great people like Mercy Fleming and Elizabeth O’Leary, the 2 women that have been giving up to 6 months of their private life every year to make a difference in the lives of children in need and is delighted that they got rewarded for all their outstanding work within the organisation.
