Elizabeth O’Leary, one of ORM’s volunteer managers was nominated under International Development Category for her dedication to change the lives of more than 1000 children over her years of volunteering.
Elizabeth has been coming to Hincesti Children’s Orphanage since Outreach Moldova was set up in 2000. In the last 10 years she has been travelling to Moldova every year for 6 months to provide her love for over 600 abandoned and orphaned children with/without special needs or terminal illnesses ORM has in its constant care.
During this time Elizabeth has worked with a total of 1 500 volunteers, helping them in every step they took towards meeting these wonderful children from Moldova that were deprived of a beautiful childhood by their parents, being left in residential care.
Outreach Moldova is proud to announce that on 10th of November 2010 at Mansion House (Dublin) Elizabeth has been given the award for International Development as part of Ireland Involved Award 2010. She has been recognized for her many years of tender service that hundreds of amazing children had never known, becoming a true Mama to them.
"Every day you feed children that cannot feed themselves due to their condition, you walk children in their wheelchairs that would otherwise never get out, you sing to little children as they fall asleep in your arms and you hold them when they cry. There is a reason they call you mama, it’s because you take the place of the mother they never had. The care and love you show these very brave children is nothing short of beautiful", Elizabeth says.
The entire Outreach Moldova team would like to say that words cannot convey our gratitude for all the work Elizabeth had put over the years into making the lives of these very deserving children more beautiful and interesting and what is most important had helped us make these world a better and safer place for them to live in. THANK YOU Mama Liz!!
