Medical Statistics

Until we started to address the medical conditions of the children in 2001, we had no idea of the complexity of the task. Many of these patients had received little or no intervention in more than 10 years in some cases, medications to treat chronic conditions were not available, vaccination schedules had not been met, patients were not examined by specialists leading to preventable complications. Contaminated food and water, lack of hygiene facilities would introduce parasites that would have a detrimental effect on the gastrointestinal and neurological systems of the children. The majority of children we examined had multiple medical pathologies, in some cases very serious, that needed to be addressed, proving the need for more specialist involvement.

Below is a brief outline of chronic conditions & disorders found in a patient population of less than 500 children in institutionalised care. ORM provides all medical input and specialised care for these children.

This is entirely separate to the day to day illness and medical events that must also be addressed in our paediatric and adult population such as acute respiratory illness, seizures, infection, trauma etc. We are proud to work alongside such dedicated doctors and nurses and are thankful for the genuine care shown to these very beautiful children in the Hospital care setting in Chisinau.
